Psalm 10

As you can probably tell by the title, this is Psalm 10! Get pumped! It's a little on the long side compared to some other ones, but nothing too crazy. Enjoy!

~.~

1 Why, O Lord, do you stand far off?
     Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,
     who are caught in the schemes he devises.
3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart;
     he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.

Sometimes it seems that the Lord is far off. When bad things happen. we tend to believe that God has abandoned us. However, this is not true. Those who are arrogant think that they are better than this "far off" Lord that they imagine our God to be. They harm the weak, rather than shelter them. They boast of everything they do and say, instead of praising the Lord who gave them their very lives. They would rather worship themselves and their belongings than God.

4 In his pride the wicked does not seek Him;
     in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
5 His ways are always prosperous;
     he is haughty and Your laws are far from him;
     he sneers at all his enemies.
6 He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me;
     I'll always be happy and never have trouble."
7 His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats;
     trouble and evil are under his tongue.

Some people choose not to seek God, as they are too caught up in their own pride and selfishness. They think so much of themselves that they leave no room for God. They do whatever it takes to become prosperous, even if doing so will hurt others or go against God's laws. Cockiness is a problem for said people, for they believe that they can live happily and untroubled without their God - that they can curse and lie and threaten and reject God, yet still live a perfect life. Needless to say, they could not be more wrong.

8 He lies in wait near the villages;
     from ambush he murders the innocent,
     watching in secret for his victims.
9 He lies in wait like a lion in cover;
     he lies in wait to catch the helpless;
     he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
10 His victims are crushed, they collapse;
     they fall under his strength.
11 He says to himself, "God has forgotten;
     He covers His face and never sees."

The unfaithful try to pull others down to their level, away from God. Whether it be with actions or words, they do not want anyone to worship God. They go after the innocent and helpless, dragging them into their nets of lies and pain. Some, unable to withstand, give in and fall. As they lie, their faith crushed, the wrongdoer convinces himself away from Him, saying that He has forgotten His people and no longer cares. But God does see and hear us, even when it seems like He does not. With Him, we overcome our oppressors and stay strong in our faith of Him.

12 Arise, Lord! Lift up Your hand, O God.
     Do not forget the helpless.
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?
     Why does he say to himself,
     "He won't call me to account"?
14 But You, O God, do see trouble and grief;
     You consider it to take it in hand.
    The victim commits himself to You;
     You are the helper of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil man;
     call him to account for his wickedness
     that would not be found out.

The Lord does not forget about the lost and helpless - in fact, He seeks them out. The wicked scoff and cause harm, saying that God will not call them to account, while the righteous call out to Him, asking and receiving His mercy and healing. Unrighteousness and evil will not prevail, for they will meet their punishment the day they die. Now they may feel free to sin 'without consequence,' but the Lord judges righteously and will do so.

16 The Lord is King for ever and ever;
     the nations will perish from His land.
17 You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted;
     you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed,
     in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.

The Lord has reigned since before time, and will continue to be kind for ever and ever. When generations come and go, He will remain the constant. He hears the cries of the harmed and wounded, and saves them. His touch can heal anything, and He reaches out to all who want Him. God watches over the lonely and terrified, and punished the wicked who do harm.

Psalm 9

Psalm 9 is done! One more after this, and then it will be time to sum up the last 5 posts... wish me luck on that again! Psalm 9, fortunately, it a bit longer than Psalm 8 was, so it might actually take up some room on the page this time.

~.~

1 I will praise You, O Lord, with all my heart;
     I will tell of all Your wonders.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in You;
     I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

Praise the Lord with everything you have - from your soul to your heart. He deserves our worship as no one else does. Rejoice in His name, for He has breathed the breath of life into us, and has saved us from eternal death. Spill our praise to the King of all the universe!

3 My enemies turn back;
     they stumble and perish before You.
4 For You have upheld my right and my cause;
     You have sat on Your throne, judging righteously.
5 You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked;
     You have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
6 Endless ruin have overtaken the enemy,
     You have uprooted their cities;
     even the memory of them has perished.

God has thrust away all, as he hates it. The wicked stand no chance whatsoever against the God who created the very earth on which they stand! None of them can face the Lord, and they will truly perish forever and ever, while those who come to the Lord can be saved and live with God forever through Christ. All mention of the unapologetic sinners will be washed away, never to be seen again. It is only in the name of God that we can stand firm.

7 The Lord reigns forever;
     He has established His throne for judgement.
8 He will judge the world in righteousness;
     He will govern the people with justice.
9 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
     a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 Those who know Your name will trust in You,
     for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.

The Lord has reigned since before time, and He will continue to do so forever. He judges, but He does so righteously. Whatever the outcome, it is as it should be, God saves the weary and troubled - He shelters the poor and weak. All who call upon His name and put their trust in Him may seek a home in Him. He never turns down or forsakes a needy soul that seeks Him.

11 Sing praises to the Lord enthroned in Zion;
     proclaim among the nations what He has done.
12 For He who avenges blood remembers;
     He does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.

Sing out your praises to the Lord, for He deserves them. Tell all about the almighty God, so that they may also hear about Him and be saved. Not only does He save us, but He actually hears our calls for help! We, a small insignificant people, can call out to the creator of the universe and He will not ignore our cries of help.

13 O Lord, see how my enemies persecute me!
     Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,
14 that I may declare Your praises
     in the gates of the Daughter of Zion
     and there rejoice in Your salvation.
15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;
     their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
16 The Lord is known by His justice;
     the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.

Praise the Lord for every moment, for He has saved us from eternal death. He died to carry our sins from us, so that we may go to heaven and live forever with God. If that doesn't count as 'saving', then I do not know what does. As stated in the previous verses of Psalm 7, the people have dug their own traps. Don't try to blame others and call them out on their sin, for have you not sinned also? Our God is righteous and watches over us with justice in His eyes - no matter how hard you try to divert blame for your sins, He always knows what you have done.

17 The wicked return to the grave,
     all nations that forget God.
18 But the needy will not always be forgotten,
     nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish.

19 Arise, O Lord, let not man triumph;
     let the nations be judged in Your presence.
20 Strike them with terror, O Lord;
     let the nations know they are but men.

These four short verses are mainly just a reprise of the first 16. All who choose not to believe and follow God will eventually disappear from all memory, while those who love God and want His love and mercy will live forever with Him.
Just look around for a minute, and you will see thousands of God's creations - not one we could possibly match. Some try to stand up against God, but can anyone ever possibly do so?  For the Lord is Lord of all, while we are but human.

Psalm 8

This one got finished much quicker than the other ones! Don't worry, that doesn't mean that it is of less importance, but it is a relatively short verse. Even if it wasn't so short though, I would still not have had much to add. It is rather self-explaining for the most part!

~.~

1 O Lord, our Lord,
     how majestic is Your name in all the earth!
  You have set Your glory
     above the heavens.
2 From the lips of children and infants
     You have ordained praise
  because of Your enemies
     to silence the foe and the avenger.

God created this beautiful earth that we live on. He even created us! Does he not deserve all our our glorifying and praise? Whether they be young or old, all bow down and worship the King.

3 When I consider Your heavens,
     the work of Your fingers,
  the moon and the stars,
     which You have set in place,
4 what is man that You are mindful of him,
     the son of man that You care for him?
5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
     and crowned him with glory and honor.

In all of His majesty, God still cares for us and loves us. He created the most beautiful and awe-inspiring things that you could ever imagine - stars, clouds, the universe itself - yet we still matter to Him. He raised us up so that we may worship and love Him.

6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
     you put everything under his feet;
7 all flocks and herds,
     and the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air,
     and the fish of the sea,
     all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord, our Lord,
     how majestic is Yourn name in all the earth!

God made us not only to worship Him, but also to watch over His creations! From land to sea to the air, every creature on this earth, along with the ground that they walk upon, was created by the one true God! Our God truely is majestic and wonderful - just look around, and it is obvious!

Psalm 7

Here goes Psalm 7, enjoy!
~.~

1 O Lord my God, I take refuge in You;
     save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
2 or they will tear me like a lion
     and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
3 O Lord my God, if I have done this
     and there is guilt on my hands -
4 if I have done evil to him who is at peace with me
     or without cause have robbed my foe -
5 Then let my enemy pursue and overtake me;
     let him trample my life to the ground
     and make me sleep in the dust.

We find our safety in the Lord. He saves us from everything imaginable - our fears, our enemies, even ourselves. If not for Him, we would be nothing more than scraps on the floor after everything wrong in the world took over us. Many times we ask to be saved from things that do this; however, we too are to blame for harming and tearing other down. We do not want to be beaten and bruised, yet oftentimes we hurt others anyways. If and when this happens, we are no better than our pursues whom we seek shelter from.

6 Arise, O Lord, in your anger;
     rise up against the rage of my enemies.
     Awake, my God; decree justice.
7 Let the assembled peoples gather around You.
     Rule over them from on high;
8    let the Lord judge the peoples.
  Judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness,
     according to my integrity, O Most High
9 O righteous God,
     who searches minds and hearts,
  bring to an end the violence of the wicked
     and make the righteous secure.

When we do things that are wrong, God gets mad. He tells us the right things to do, so when we ignore this He is not exactly happy with us. He judges and watches everyone; He can see every part of us. No matter how hard we try to keep some secret or thought away from Him, we never can. He protects the righteous, those who follow and love Him, while the non-believers perish and do not have eternal life with the Father.

10 My shield is God Most High,
     who saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a rightous judgem
     a God who expresses His wrath every day.
12 If he does not relent,
     he will sharpen his sword;
     he will bend and string his bow.
13 He has prepared his deadly weapons;
     he makes ready his flaming arrows.

God is our shield - our protection when we are weak and frail. He has saved us - from death - once before, and he continues to watch over us to this day. He judges righteously, even in His mercy and love. We all make mistakes and sin, so we must repent; when we purposely do wrong and do not even ask for forgiveness, that is when God becomes angry, and He judges us so. For even in His love, He must punish us for our wrongdoings.

14 He who is pregnant with evil
     and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment.
15 He wwho digs a hole and scoops it out
     falls intp the pit he has made.
16 The trouble he causes recoils on himself;
     his violence comes down on his own head.

Evil and trouble --> Disillusionment
Dig hole --> Fall in

The trouble you cause is never worth it in the end, Somehow, someway, it always comes back to bite you. Sometimes you expect it, sometimes it comes as a surprise - either way, it almost always comes. DO not cause violence and trouble to solve your own selfish wants, for you will recieve a worse deal in the end - whether this be here on Earth, or later when the Lord looks upon you.

17 I will give thanks to the Lord because of His righteousness
     and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

It's as simple as that. Our God is truely righteous, so take the time to thank Him for it. Sing our his name for all the world to hear, that they may also be saved.

And there is Psalm 7! I plan on having Psalm 8 out by the end of next week, so keep checking back to see if I have put it up yet!

Psalm 6

FINALLY! Psalm 6 is finished! I know that I haven't posted a Psalm in a while, but life was pretty hectic there and I couldn't find the time to get on the computer and type everything up. Now, everything is pretty calm and I can finally get back to 'Uncovering the Psalms'! I have some time to make up for though, so be prepared for a nice onslaught of God's word over the next few weeks. So here it is, Psalm 6!

~.~

1 O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger
     or dicipline me in Your wrath.
2 Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint.
     O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony.
3 My soul is in anguish.
     How long, O Lord, how long?

We do not want the Lord's wrath, but we do want His mercy and love; which, thankfully for us, He gives us on a daily basis. Without this, we would all surely perish and whither away into nothing. Our very bones crave the Lord - without Him we would live our lives lost and alone.

4 Turn, O Lord, and deliver me;
     save me because of Your unfailing love.
5 No on remembers you when he is dead.
     Who praises you from the grave?

Only God can rescue our hearts and souls. He can pull us from the edge, light up our darkness, and thrust away our terrors. Now is the time to ask for Him to fill you; when you are dead, you will no longer be able to ask for help. We must worship and praise and love Him while we can here on Earth, and hHe will love, protect, AND save us through His unfailing mercy.

6 I am worn out from groaning
     all night long I flood my bed with weeping
     and drench my couch with tears.
7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow;
     they fail because of all my foes.
8 Away from me, all you who do evil,
     for the Lord has heard my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my cry for mercy;
     the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed;
     they will turn back in sudden disgrace.

Sometimes we dispare and end up sobing at our knees - after all, we are human! When we have issues at home or school, when life starts to get too crazy, or even when someone close to us hurt us, we get upset. However, God is the untimate healer. He hears you in your sorrow and has mercy - He can turn your mourning into joy again if you just ask. When He heals, no one can hurt you, for He loves, protects, and saves.

Psalms 1-5

Psalm 1
~.~
Be righteous; do not walk with the wicked and unbelievers, do not be with the mockers. Instead walk with the Lord, the creator of the universe. Do not be one of those who will falter and fall, those who do not love God, as they will blow away on the wind like chaff. Instead, be a tree and stand firm in His word and you will be blessed, eventually even having a place at the feet of the Lord in heaven.

Psalm 2
~.~
Many people do not trust that the Lord will provide, even when He promises to do so. They see his encompassing love as a heavy chain that keeps them away from what they want. To get what they want, they break 'free' of God, sending themselves right into the captivity of their own selfish thoughts. When people break away from the Lord to 'save' themselfs, He laughs. He knows that He can do whatever He wishes to, even when they believe that they know better. If only we give our lifes to Him, instead of trying to stick to our own desires, He will protect and provide for us. We only need to reach out for Him, and He will already be there waiting for us. He wants us to love Him, and yet we turn away from Him - even when God says that He will love and protect those who choose to follow Him.

Psalm 3
~.~
God always pulls through for us. Even when the unbelievers threaten to capsize us, we can hang on to Him and He will save us. When we call out to the Lord in need, He hears us. He truly sustains us, from helping us through the storms in life to creating us in the first place. With Him, all things are possible. With Him we need have no fear of those people or things that overwhelm us and pull us under, for He can conquer all!

Psalm 4
~.~
We really do need God. He has set a place aside in heaven for us already, but until then He gets us through every day in our life on earth. When we become overangered, we must call out to Him to help us through it, or it can overtake us and cause us to sin in ways that we wish we had not. With this anger and sin comes doubt - can there really be any good? Good does exist, and it always comes from God. He is the creator of all things good, so we must only look to Him to find it.

Psalm 5
~.~
When you call to the Lord, He hears you. We sometimes pray expecting an immediate answer, but God does not always work that way. He always answers, but it can take anywhere from minutes to years. God has created the good in life, and therefore he hates evil and sin. In our evil and sin, God cannot even look upon us - but with Christ's sacrifice, the gap between us in our sin and God is bridged, so that one day we may come live with Him in heaven. When you turn away from this saving grace and His love, everything begins to crumble. Your heart becomes filled with destruction, and you begin to fade away. Luckily, all you must do is turn back to God and repent, and you will be saved; this is the mercy of our God.

Psalm 5

This one took a little longer than usual, but I finally have it! And just to let you know, the next post will not be a Psalm, but rather a recap of the last five!

~.~

1 Give ear to my words, O Lord,
     consider my sighing.
2 Listen to my cry for help
     my King and my God,
     for to you I pray.
3 In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice;
     in the morning I lay my requests before you
     and wait in expectation.

Call out to the Lord, for He will answer you. This part of the verse is simply David calling out to God, asking Him ti hear his prayers. He prays, then he patiently waits for a reply, just as we must often do. Many time we pray, then want an answer immediately; however, God does not always work that way. Sometimes it can happen in seconds, but many other times it can take weeks, months, or even years.

4 You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil;
     with you the wicked cannot dwell.
5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence;
     you hate all who do wrong.
6 You destroy those who tell lies;
     bloodthirsty and deceitful men
     the Lord abhors.

God hates evil. He created the good in life, and out sins twist that to make it something horrible that God cannot even look upon. Luckily for us, God sent Jesus, His only son, to dies on the cross for our sins, so that He may look past our evils and sins to cast His gaze upon us - even when we do not deserve even that.

7 But I, by Your great mercy,
     will come into Your house;
   in reverence will I bow down
     toward Your holy temple.
8 Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness
     because of my enemies -
     make straight Your way before me.

Only by His mercy can we experience the opportunity to enter His house and pray, letting our hearts flow out to Him. We need the Lord; without Him we would easily be overrun and dragged under.

9 Not a word from their mouth can be trusted;
     their heart is filled with destruction.
10 Declare them guilty, O God!
     Let their intrigues be their downfall.
   Banish them for their many sins,
     for they have rebelled against you

When you turn away from the Lord, everything falls apart. As the verse says, your heart will become filled with destruction, and love no longer resides within you. God declares those guilty, as they have chosen to turn away, even when He calls for them.

11 But let all who take refuge in You be glad;
     let them ever sing for joy.
   Spread Your protection over them,
     that those who love Your name may rejoice in You
12 For surely, O Lord, You bless the righteous;
     you surround them with Your favor as with a shield.

God protects and love His followers. In His name alone, we find true joy and happiness. The Lord blesses the righteous and protects them from all things. With the Lord, no harm can even come upon your path, or at least nothing will come that you cannot overcome with His help.
